2019 Academic Advisory Meeting of Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering
The second workshop meeting of the first academic committee of Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering was held in University of Science and Technology Beijing on Sep16. Gregory Olson, Shuichi Iwata and other16 scientists attended the meeting. Meanwhile, deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Education Qinliang Tan, president of USTB Renshu Yang, and vice president of USTBAixiang Wu attended the meeting together.
Prof. Renshu Yang gave welcoming remarks to the attendees of the meeting. Prof. Yang highlighted the importance of the construction of the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering and acknowledged the achievements made by the center in team building, scientific research and services since its approval in 2017. He urged members to make suggestions for the strategic development of the Center and the discipline construction of Beijing University of Science and Technology, and hoped that all members of the Center would digest and absorb their valuable opinions and suggestions. We will firmly promote the construction and development of high-quality and cutting-edge centers, and make MGE a first-class scientific and technological innovation platform contributing to our country and adding luster to Beijing.
Mr. Qinliang Tan remarked that materials genome engineering is one of the most advanced research directions in the field of materials science and engineering. Relying on the superior subject of material science and engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing has a great potential in the field of MGE. He hoped that the center would become an internationally recognized platform in materials discipline.
Academician Chen Liquan, Director of the Academic Committee, presided over the meeting. Prof. Luning Wang, Associate Director of the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering, reported the overview, the main progresses made in team building, research innovation, international collaborations and graduate education, as well as future plans of the center. In the Report, Prof. Yanhui Liu from the High-entropy and Amorphous Alloys team, Prof. Xiaogang Li from the Materials Service Big Data Technology team and Prof. Rongming Wang from the Fabrication and Characterization on Advanced Functional Materials team presented on the topics of ‘Discover Better Metals Faster’, ‘Corrosion Big Data - Data Acquisition and Applications’ and ‘High-throughput Design and in situ Characterization of Functional Nanomaterials’, respectively. In the discussions, the members affirmed the achievements of the Center in team building, talent team, research innovation, international collaborations and graduate education, and made suggestions for the future development of the Center.
In the end of the meeting, Prof. Jianxin Xie gave acknowledgement remarks to the attendees. He noted that the MGE center has achieved excellent results during the mid-term assessment, and hoped to build the center into an important materials R&D platform in China and also internationally to live up to the strong support from the committee members.
